April is National Volunteer Month, a time to recognize the incredible people who generously give their time, compassion, and kindness to others. At Heart & Soul Hospice, our volunteers truly represent what we do.

The Role of Hospice Volunteers

Our volunteers play a meaningful role in supporting families during a very difficult time. While our medical team focuses on care, volunteers focus on comfort and support. Our volunteers spend their time:

      • Sitting quietly with someone who needs company
      • Sharing stories and meaningful conversation
      • Reading a favorite book
      • Playing music
      • Simply holding someone’s hand.

They also help families and caregivers by offering companionship – sometimes even allowing caregivers a chance to rest by assisting with small tasks or creating meaningful moments. Volunteers can create a sense of calm and connection, helping families feel that they’re not alone during this journey.

How our Volunteers Serve

Besides visiting and spending time with patients, our volunteers can also help the team at the Heart & Soul office by assisting with office tasks, helping with community events, participating in veteran pinning ceremonies and much more.

Hospice care is not just about medical needs – our volunteers remind us that presence and compassion play a huge role in ensuring patients and families are comforted.

This month, we want to recognize what makes volunteers special: their willingness to give from the heart. Their kindness helps create moments of peace and bring dignity to those we serve.

Interested in becoming a volunteer? We have opportunities available in the hospice office, with our patients and families and in the senior living communities where Heart & Soul Hospice provides services. Even a small amount of time can make a lasting impact.
